THORA

The chair Thora, inspired by beech trees, is a modern reinterpretation of Thonet no. 14. Thora is a minimalist, yet decorative and functional dining chair.

The sideview is inspired by the shape of the tree’s trunk rising from the soil. The chair consists of four pieces and is easy to take apart and put together adding to its versatility making it convenient to transport and store. The backpiece is a foot-to-foot steam bent piece with a steam bent ring in the middle. Engraved in the seat are tender carvings resembling the growth rings from the tree trunk, highlighting where the material once came from.

A remembrance on the majestic beech tree from the woods. We wanted to give the chair a slightly solemn expression to bring focus to the act of dining together, as many people have started to be absent when dining with cell phones amongst others. We obtained this expression by elongating the back and finishing the chair with a high gloss black piano lacquer.
